Geothermal Repair
When your geothermal heat pump isn’t heating or cooling, or when energy bills spike unexpectedly, you need reliable diagnostics and repair. Lake Area Heating & Air brings 18 years of HVAC expertise to geothermal system service across Clay & Putnam County. We specialize in identifying and fixing refrigerant leaks, compressor problems, thermostat failures, and other heat pump issues that disrupt your home’s comfort. Our technicians are trained in geothermal diagnostics and carry the tools and parts needed to get your system running efficiently again. Call us today to schedule a repair visit or get a detailed estimate.
What Sets Us Apart
Geothermal heat pump systems operate differently than traditional furnaces or air conditioners. Our technicians understand refrigerant cycles, compressor function, ground loop performance, and the integration between the outdoor loop and indoor unit. We diagnose issues accurately and recommend repairs that restore efficiency, not just quick fixes.
We service the brands we install: American Standard, Gree, Ameristar, GrandAire, and Tempstar. As an authorized dealer, we have access to genuine parts, warranty support, and technical resources that independent repair shops may lack. Your repair carries dealer-level accountability.
Before recommending repair, we run a full system inspection: pressure tests, refrigerant checks, electrical continuity, and airflow measurement. You’ll understand what’s wrong, why it matters, and what your repair options cost—all before work begins. If repair costs approach replacement value, we’ll tell you that too.
A veteran-operated business diagnosing a broken system means bringing the same discipline to every service call: methodical testing, honest documentation, and no shortcuts. We’re rooted in this community since 2008, and we manage every call professionally, leaving your home in the condition it came to us.
After repair, we test the system under load, verify refrigerant charge and pressure, check compressor amperage, and document everything. You receive a written report of what was repaired, what we tested, and the warranty protection covering your work.
Geothermal repairs often need specialized refrigerant, compressor valves, heat exchangers, or expansion devices. We stock common parts and maintain supplier relationships for anything else, which helps keep your repair on schedule once work begins.
Tell Us What’s Wrong
If your geothermal system is underperforming or showing warning signs, we’re ready to diagnose and repair it. Fill out a quick form or call us to describe your issue and get a repair appointment. If cost is a concern, ask about financing options through Wisetack, or compare heat pump repair services for alternative equipment.
Warning Signs
If your home feels cold in winter or hot in summer despite the thermostat being set, the compressor, refrigerant circuit, or ground loop may not be functioning properly. Weak heating or cooling output is the most common repair trigger and usually indicates refrigerant loss or compressor wear.
A compressor hum turning into a grinding or squealing noise, a blower producing rattles, or clicking sounds during startup all signal mechanical or electrical problems inside the heat pump. Ignoring these noises often leads to component failure and more expensive repairs.
Frost or ice buildup indicates the evaporator is too cold, often due to airflow restriction, refrigerant overcharge, or a metering device failure. Left unaddressed, this will strain the compressor and cause it to fail.
If the thermostat doesn’t turn the system on, cycles on and off erratically, or shows incorrect temperature readings, the issue may be a faulty thermostat, broken wiring, or a control board problem. A professional diagnostic will pinpoint the cause.
Reduced airflow through your ductwork points to a blower motor issue, clogged filter, or ductwork blockage. Inside a geothermal system, it may also indicate compressor performance degradation or refrigerant problems.
A geothermal system running at reduced efficiency will show up in higher monthly heating or cooling costs. This often precedes complete failure, making it a good time to schedule a diagnostic and catch a developing problem before it worsens.
Our Process
Step 1 of 5
When you call, we ask about the symptoms—no heat, no cooling, strange noises, high bills—and schedule a visit during our business hours. Upon arrival, our technician does a walk-through: thermostat check, blower operation, indoor unit inspection, and a listen to the compressor. This initial assessment identifies obvious issues (clogged filter, tripped breaker, thermostat setting) and determines whether a full diagnostic is needed. Most customers get an initial verdict and timeline estimate during this step.
Step 2 of 5
For more complex issues, we perform a full diagnostic: refrigerant pressure and temperature measurements, electrical continuity testing on compressor and blower circuits, heat exchanger inspection, and ground loop performance checks (where accessible). We measure air temperature leaving the indoor unit and compare it to design specifications. We also review your thermostat settings and past service history. This step typically takes 1–2 hours and generates a detailed report.
Step 3 of 5
After testing, we sit down with you and review the findings. We explain what’s causing the problem, show you the test data, and present repair options (e.g., replacing a capacitor, recharging refrigerant, replacing a compressor). For each option, we provide a cost estimate, timeline, and warranty details. If the repair cost approaches a significant portion of a new system’s value and the geothermal unit is aging, we’ll candidly discuss whether replacement is the better long-term choice.
Step 4 of 5
Once you approve, we order any needed parts, schedule the repair, and complete the work. For a compressor failure, we evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system per EPA standards. For a refrigerant leak, we locate and seal the source, then pressure-test and recharge. For electrical issues, we replace capacitors, relays, or control boards as diagnosed. After each repair, we run the system through a full heating/cooling cycle to verify correct operation, measure pressures and temperatures again, and confirm the fix resolved the original problem.
Step 5 of 5
We provide a detailed invoice listing the repair performed, parts replaced, labor hours, and warranty details. Most repairs carry a written parts and labor warranty from our company. You’ll also receive manufacturer warranty details if the repair involved a compressor, circuit board, or other warranted component. We schedule a follow-up call or visit after the repair to confirm continued performance. If issues arise within the warranty period, we return to address them at no additional cost.
Common Repairs
The compressor is the heat pump’s engine. If it’s failing, your system won’t heat or cool. We diagnose compressor problems through amperage testing and pressure readings, then replace or repair as appropriate. This is often the most involved repair but essential for restoring your system.
A refrigerant leak reduces cooling/heating capacity and can eventually strain the compressor. We locate the leak source using dye and electronic detection, seal the leak, evacuate the system per EPA standards, and recharge with the correct refrigerant type and volume.
A faulty thermostat won’t turn the system on, or it cycles erratically. We test thermostat wiring and control board continuity, replace faulty units with compatible models, and reprogram for your home’s comfort preferences.
Weak airflow or no airflow usually points to a blower motor problem or a capacitor that won’t energize the motor. We test the motor and capacitor, replace whichever is failing, and verify proper airflow after repair.
Over time, the heat exchanger can develop corrosion (reducing heat transfer) or internal blockage (from mineral buildup or debris). We inspect it during diagnostics, clean if possible, or replace if severely damaged.
The expansion device meters refrigerant into the evaporator. If it sticks or fails, the system won’t cool or heat efficiently. We replace the expansion device and recharge the system to restore proper operation.
Capacitors help start the compressor and blower; contactors switch electrical circuits; control boards manage system logic. Failures in these components prevent the system from operating or cause erratic cycling. We replace faulty parts with OEM equivalents.
In rare cases, the ground loop develops a blockage, leak, or debris accumulation. We can often verify loop performance through pressure and flow testing. If a loop is severely damaged, replacement or bypass strategies may be needed.
Plans & Financing
Keeping your HVAC system running well takes more than a single repair call — it takes a plan. Lake Area Heating & Air offers both a maintenance plan and flexible financing to make that easier for Clay & Putnam County families.
Regular maintenance catches small problems in your Central AC, furnace, heat pump, or mini-split before they become expensive repairs, and it keeps your system running efficiently through Florida’s long cooling season. Lake Area Heating & Air’s maintenance plan covers both residential and commercial equipment.
Big HVAC repairs and replacements shouldn’t have to wait, which is why Lake Area Heating & Air offers financing through Wisetack. Applying is quick, and it lets Keystone Heights homeowners move forward with the system they need on a schedule that works for their budget.
Every new residential system comes with a 10-year parts warranty from the manufacturer.
For added protection, we now offer an optional 10-year labor warranty—giving you full coverage and long-term peace of mind. This labor warranty must be added within six months of installation, so if we installed your system within the past six months, you’re still eligible!
